DAD'S ACTIVE DUTY (D.A.D.)

The mission of Dad’s Active Duty (D.A.D.) is to bring families back together by strengthening the father-children relationships in our community. This program will allow father’s to become actively involved in the lives of their child or children. D.A.D. will encourage, educate, motivate, and strengthen men to become empowered fathers. Our goal is to build strong leaders who will possess the technical, physical and mental skills required to give them character, integrity and personal accountability. The D.A.D. program currently accommodates an average of 100 elementary and secondary students participating in activities such as fishing, camping, tutorials and arts and crafts.

Fishing:

The participants learn fishing techniques and enjoy nature by spending time with a D.A.D. mentor or volunteer.

Camping:

The participants leave urban areas and enjoy nature while spending one or several nights outdoors, usually at a campsite.

Tutorials:

Students receive assistance with homework and problem subject areas
to improve knowledge or skills related to the coursework. The mentor allows the student to work on his/her own, and if the student has any questions, the mentor assists.

Date Night w/ Daughter:

This activity gives a father an opportunity to spend quality time with his daughter. While fathers certainly love all their children, it sure seems that more dads spend a lot more time with their sons. Perhaps they think that they have more in common with their boys, or maybe they are a little intimidated by the girls. But with a little more understanding, fathers can feel just as comfortable around their daughters as they do their sons. It is certainly important for fathers to connect with their daughters as well. The way a daughter sees a father treat women makes a big difference in how she will see men later in her life.  Simple courtesy and kindness will go a long way in helping her know what to expect of men in her later life.

Arts/Crafts

Comprise a whole host of activities and hobbies that are related to making things with one's hands and skill.
